Overview
An infant carrier from German brand CYBEX that is always installed rear-facing and approved to UN R129/03 (i-Size) for children 40 to 87 cm tall and up to 13 kg. This listing is the Lava Grey colour, product code 523001147. The Base G is sold separately.
Key features
- Strong independent test results: in the German ADAC test (May 2024) the seat alone scored 2.0 (good) overall and 1.5 for safety, with a very low injury risk in the frontal crash and a low risk in the side crash. With the Base G it scored 1.8 (good).
- Near-flat recline: the backrest can be lowered to a flatter position in and out of the car for more comfort on longer trips.
- Extra side protection (L.S.P. Plus): CYBEX says it reduces the impact of a side collision by about 15% compared with the same seat without it in a test to ADAC criteria.
- Grows with your baby: the headrest and harness height adjust together with one central adjuster, and you only move up to the next seat when your baby's head reaches the top of the shell.
- With the Base G (sold separately): Isofix installation with a support leg, 180° rotation towards the door and a one-click release. The same base later fits the Sirona G i-Size.
- Approved for use on certain aircraft according to CYBEX and ADAC (check with your airline when booking), and it clicks onto compatible CYBEX strollers.
Who it suits
- Newborns from 40 cm up to about 18 to 24 months, 87 cm or 13 kg, whichever comes first.
- Parents who want an infant seat with high scores in independent crash tests and who move their baby between car and stroller often.
Limitations
- Expensive, and the Base G is not included, adding a significant cost if you want Isofix installation and rotation.
- Without the base it installs with a 3-point vehicle belt only; ADAC noted a slightly higher risk of incorrect use, slightly fiddlier buckling and a cover that is hard to remove.
- On the front passenger seat the front airbag must be deactivated (per ADAC).
- Limited view out for the baby because of the deep shell (per ADAC).
- Few ratings for this colour on Amazon.sa so far (26 at the time of review).
- The manufacturer says the seat should not be used for more than 8 years (per ADAC).
Care
The fabric covers are machine washable at 30°C according to CYBEX. Follow the manual to remove and refit them correctly.
Why this rating?
Our assessment is based on published test results and shopper ratings; we did not test the seat ourselves. In ADAC's 2024 test it scored 1.5 for safety and 2.0 overall without a base, and 1.8 with the Base G, and it holds 4.7/5 on Amazon.sa, though from few ratings. The score is held back by the premium price with a separately sold base and a limited usage span up to about 87 cm.
A good fit if
- If your car has Isofix, the Base G makes installation easier per ADAC, so budget for it
- Make sure the seat position has a 3-point belt, and deactivate the front airbag if you install it on the front passenger seat
