CYBEX Sirona Gi i-Size Plus Car Seat - Moon Black

Overview

A child car seat from CYBEX with an integrated base that installs with ISOFIX and a load leg, and rotates 360° to make getting the child in and out easier. It can be used rear-facing or forward-facing and is approved to UN R129/03 (i-Size). This is the Plus version in Moon Black, which CYBEX says adds extra mesh fabric for more ventilation.

What tests and reviews found

• In the ADAC test (May 2024) it scored 2.2 "good" overall, with 2.1 for safety, 2.3 for operation, 2.0 for ergonomics and 1.0 "very good" for harmful substances. ADAC noted a low injury risk in frontal and side impacts and a stable fit in the car.
• It received the same 2.2 "good" in Stiftung Warentest issue 6/2024, and CYBEX describes it as best in class in that test.
• ADAC's criticisms: very heavy seat (12.7 kg in the test, 13 kg per CYBEX), harnessing the child is somewhat more effort, removing the cover is fiddly, and the child's view out is limited.
• On Amazon.sa a local review calls it sturdy, practical and comfortable for the baby; reviews from Amazon Spain say its main drawback is the weight.

Who it suits

• Parents who want to keep their child rear-facing as long as possible, up to about 4 years.
• Cars with an i-Size marked seat or listed on CYBEX's vehicle compatibility list.
• Families who mostly keep the seat in one car.

Limits before buying

• Installs only with ISOFIX and the load leg; it cannot be installed with the vehicle belt, per ADAC.
• Check your car before buying: if the seat position has no i-Size logo, use CYBEX's car compatibility checker.
• Not for newborns out of the box; use from birth (from 40 cm) needs the newborn inlay, sold separately per CYBEX.
• Forward-facing is not allowed below 76 cm, and ADAC says not before 15 months.
• If used rear-facing on the front passenger seat, the front airbag must be deactivated, per ADAC.
• Heavy, so moving it between cars is tiring.
• The Amazon rating count is fairly small and includes reviews from other Amazon stores.

Care and use

• Machine wash the fabric covers at 30 °C, per CYBEX.
• CYBEX recommends not using the seat for more than 8 years and replacing it after any accident, even without visible damage.
• Follow the user guide for installation and check the ISOFIX and load-leg indicators every time.
