About the product
Overview
A space-themed activity gym from US brand Skip Hop, model 9J002110. It pairs a plush quilted playmat with two arches for hanging toys, and comes with a crescent-moon tummy-time pillow and a removable shooting-star mirror. Buyers rate it highly, but its Amazon.sa price is clearly higher than at US retailers.
Key features (per Skip Hop)
- 17+ developmental activities, according to the brand.
- Extra-plush playmat with high-contrast colours.
- Crescent-moon pillow for tummy time and a removable shooting-star mirror.
- Five hanging toys: a metallic musical star with ribbons, a sugar glider lovey, a rattle raccoon with a star teether, a wolf with a chime, and a snow owl with crinkle.
- 12 toy loops.
- Three ways to play: tummy time, overhead play on the back, and seated play.
Who it suits
- Babies from birth to 2 years, per the manufacturer.
- Parents who want a soft, tidy play space for tummy time and back play at home.
- Those who care about a calm, attractive design, or want a baby-shower gift.
Limits before you buy
- Pricey compared with other play gyms and with its US retail price.
- The musical star runs on non-replaceable button batteries, and some reviews say the sound stopped early.
- Some buyers say the stuffing lost its shape after washing.
- Skip Hop notes the kit may include either a tummy-time pillow or a mirror, so check the box contents on the store page.
- It is not a sleep product; it is for supervised play.
- It takes up space: about 96.5 x 96.5 cm.
Care and use
- Follow the washing instructions on the label; retailers differ between machine wash and spot clean.
- Check the loops and hanging toys regularly, and remove the toys and arches once baby starts pulling on them or pulling up to stand.
- Never leave baby unattended during play.
Why this rating?
Editorial assessment based on published sources; we did not test it ourselves. It is rated very highly on Amazon.sa (4.8/5 from 789 ratings) and Amazon.com, with reviews praising the soft mat, design and toy variety. But its Amazon.sa price is high versus its US price and alternatives, there are recurring reports of the musical star failing and stuffing suffering in the wash, and we found no independent hands-on test of this model.
A good fit if
- If design and softness matter more to you than price
- If you follow the label's washing instructions and accept that the star's battery is not replaceable
