About the product
Overview
The Stokke Tripp Trapp is a solid-beech chair, designed by Peter Opsvik in 1972, that brings a child up to the family table and is meant to keep being used through childhood and into adulthood. This listing is the chair only, in Black: to use it as a high chair for a baby you need the Tripp Trapp Baby Set, and from birth the Newborn Set, both sold separately.
Key features (per Stokke and the Amazon.sa listing)
- Seat and footplate adjust in both height and depth, so the chair can be set to fit the child as they grow.
- Made of cultivated beech wood with a water-based varnish.
- Designed for dining tables 72-76 cm high; assembled size 79 × 49 × 46 cm.
- Stokke says it was tested to withstand loads up to 136 kg.
- With the Baby Set, the chair assembly meets EN 14988:2017 and is intended for children who can sit unaided, up to 3 years or 15 kg.
- 7-year extended warranty when you register the chair with Stokke.
What reviews found
- Wirecutter (updated December 2025) made it the upgrade pick among high chairs: comfortable and easy to use for both a 7-month-old and a preschooler, very long-lasting and easy to resell, but much more expensive than its top pick, harder to clean, and the base chair needs add-ons for infants. Assembly took about 36 minutes.
- BabyGearLab (updated June 2025) tested the bundle with the Baby Set: 71/100, a close runner-up to its top pick, with a 9/10 for quality but low marks for set-up and footprint; it found the buckling system bulky and the infant insert tricky.
- Amazon.sa: 4.7/5 from 1,484 ratings. That figure is shared by all colours and includes reviews from other Amazon stores.
- We have not tested it ourselves; this verdict is based on independent reviews, shopper ratings and Stokke's own information.
Who it suits
- Families who want one chair that lasts from the high-chair stage to the school years and beyond, and are ready to buy the Baby Set for a child under 3.
- Homes where the child eats at the family table, at a standard 72-76 cm table.
- Parents who value build quality and resale value over price.
Limits and cautions
- On its own it is not a baby high chair: under 3 years, use it only with the Baby Set (and from birth only with the Newborn Set).
- Do not seat a baby in it before they can sit up unaided, and never leave the child unattended.
- Stokke warns of tilting if the child pushes their feet against the table, and says the chair must never be used without the gliders under the legs.
- Expensive, and accessories add to the cost.
- Assembly takes time, and screws need re-tightening 2-3 weeks after assembly, then regularly (for example every two months).
Care
- Wipe with a clean damp cloth, then dry; Stokke does not recommend detergents.
- Avoid leaving it in direct sun, as the colour may change.
- Keep the Allen key to check the screws.
Why this rating?
Wirecutter's upgrade pick among high chairs and a close runner-up in BabyGearLab's tests (71/100, 9/10 for quality), with 4.7/5 from 1,484 ratings on Amazon.sa. Its strength is how long it lasts: with the right sets it serves from the baby stage to adulthood, carries a 7-year registered warranty and resells well. Held back by a high price that rises further with the Baby Set, which this chair-only listing needs for any child under 3, plus slower assembly and harder cleaning than plastic chairs. We have not tested it ourselves.
A good fit if
- If your child is under 3, buy the Baby Set too, since the chair alone is not a baby high chair
