6.9 / 10Worth it with conditions
A metal pressure gate that conforms to EN 1930:2011, and its ultra-thin bottom bar is a genuine advantage praised by Mother&Baby's testers.
MadeForMums rated it 3.7/5, praising installation but criticising the stiff opening.
Amazon.sa shoppers rate it 4.6/5 from over 4,000 ratings.
The score is held back by its imported price (about SAR 355 versus a UK RRP of £42.95) and a usage window that ends at 24 months.
This verdict is based on published sources; we did not test it ourselves.

About the product
Overview
The Safety 1st SecurTech Flat Step (model 2443431000, white) is the European version of Safety 1st's metal pressure-fit baby gate. It wedges between the sides of a doorway or stairway with no drilling, and its standout feature is an ultra-thin, flat step-over bar meant to reduce tripping compared with conventional gates.
Key features (per the manufacturer)
- Fits openings of 73-80 cm without extensions, and up to 101 cm with separately sold 7 cm or 14 cm extensions.
- Ultra-flat, thin bottom step-over bar.
- Double-lock system with a SecureTech visual indicator showing whether the gate is closed and locked.
- One-hand opening in both directions, a "Keep Open" mode, and close assist.
- 4-point pressure fit with wall cups that can be stuck on or screwed in.
- Conforms to EN 1930:2011, per the instruction manual.
Who it suits
- Children from 6 months up to 24 months, per the Safety 1st manual.
- Doorways, hallways, and the top or bottom of stairs within the manual's installation rules.
- Renters or anyone who prefers not to drill into walls.
Limits before buying
- Never use it without the wall cups, per the manufacturer.
- At the top of stairs it must not sit below the top level; at the bottom it goes at the front of the lowest possible tread, per the manual.
- There is still a bottom bar, and the manufacturer warns of a tripping risk when crossing it.
- Stop using it once the child can climb it.
- Never fit it across windows; the mounting surface must be solid, stable, smooth and non-greasy.
- Some testers found the opening mechanism stiff at first and needing a firm grip.
- The Amazon.sa offer is imported from Amazon Germany, so delivery takes several days.
Care
- Wipe with a sponge and mild soap.
- Check the fit regularly and re-tighten the spindle wheel if the gate has been knocked.
