Why this rating?

7.0 / 10Worth it with conditions

Parents.com named the Hatch Go (Rest Go) its best portable sound machine after testing, praising its crisp, smoothly looping sound, 15-hour battery and one-handed use, and Conde Nast Traveler found it simple and durable on trips.

It holds 4.7/5 from 201 ratings on Amazon.sa.

It loses points for having no sleep timer or low-battery warning, a measured maximum of about 93.5 dB that calls for careful volume and distance, and a SAR price noticeably above its US$39.99 list price.

A good fit if

You want white noise for naps outside the home, not a nursery sleep trainer
You will keep it away from the baby, never in the crib or on its rail, at a low volume
You don't need an automatic shut-off timer

About the product

Overview

The Hatch Go (sold earlier as the Hatch Rest Go) is a palm-sized, rechargeable sound machine meant for naps away from home: in the stroller, the car, a hotel room or at a relative's house. It plays 10 built-in sounds and needs no app, Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.

Key features

10 sounds: white noise, ocean, rain, water, wind, dryer, fan, rock-a-bye, heartbeat and hush.
Three buttons: hold the centre button to turn on or off, tap it to change the sound, and use plus and minus for 12 volume levels.
Rechargeable battery rated by Hatch for up to 15 hours; it keeps playing while charging through the included USB-C cable (about 2 hours to a full charge).
Built-in ring clip for hanging it on a bag or stroller handle.
Outer shell made from 99% post-consumer recycled plastic, according to the listing.

Who it suits

Families who already use white noise at home and want the same sound for naps on the go, or as a simple backup machine that works anywhere without setup.

Limits to know

No sleep timer, so you have to turn it off yourself.
No low-battery warning, according to Parents.com's testing.
In Parents.com's testing its maximum output reached about 93.5 dB, and the buttons can switch on by accident inside a bag.
It is a travel machine, not a sleep trainer: no time-to-rise light or app routines like the larger Hatch Rest.

Safe use and care

A 2014 study in Pediatrics found that infant sleep machines can exceed recommended noise levels near the crib. Its authors advise placing the machine as far from the baby as possible and never inside the crib or on its rail, using the lowest volume that works, and limiting how long it plays. Wipe the shell with a dry or slightly damp cloth and keep the charging cable out of the baby's reach.
